Profile Information

Hometown:
Miami, Florida (then) -- Southern California (now)
About Me:
Currently a manager on the cleaner end of the trash business, I've been a PC junkie since my Commodore 128. I was a Red Sox fan only because that's what my dad was, but when the Marlins came to Florida in 1993, I was converted-- have been a zealot ever since. Happily married with a single great son, I have two dogs who are kind-hearted but have the combined IQ of a rock. I lived in Miami 29 years, then moved up a mountain and have been here for almost 5.
What I like most about PureSim:
Getting REAL support from a REAL person, not an automated e-mail. The love for the game shown by the creator and the fans. I really feel that what I say MATTERS - even if the change can't be made, at least I was given a fair chance to speak my mind and that someone really listened. That is such a rarity, it really makes this community stand out.
Favorite PureSim Experience:
When I found myself cheering and hollering after I was managing the game where my pitcher threw a no-hitter. Even my wife was excited!

The Two Huffs

August 29th, 2013 - Havanna "rookie pitching sensation" (press' words, not ours) Laci Huff, called up from AAA during the offseason and assigned the #5 starter position, gets chased away early, giving up 10 runs on 8 hits over just 4 innings. He eventually took the loss (shocker), as even though we fought back, the game was lost 10-11.

September 4th, 2013 - Same "rookie pitching sensation" against the same team, at home this time, goes 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, striking…

Eight.... teen is NOT enough

I just finished a game where my ace, Tomas Enfin, who's having some uncharacteristic difficulty this year, was starting. After beginning the year with a 9-1 record, Tomas is now 13-5. Though still a great record, it's his 2.40 ERA that's the most interesting.

I mention this because we just finished losing a game against the Topeka Marshalls, 2-0. In a losing effort, Enfin went all 9 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits and walking 2; pretty good numbers really. It was an utter lack of ru…

They Come In Waves

It's interesting how we can be fortunate enough to not experience any injuries for a prolonged amount of time, and then suddenly, over a 5-game span, I lose 3 of my starting pitchers to injury. !?!?!?

I suppose that "When it rains it pours..." or is that, when it strains it pours? It's for this reason that I am subscribing to Dave Dombrowski's eternal words of wisdom, "You can never have too much pitching".

This is why over the last post-season, I stocked up on some affo… Continue

The National Pastime Association - Managing the Havanna Galleons

I'm in my 10th season of GBG managing my Havana Galleons in the custom, fictional National Pastime Association. I started this group with PS2005 back when Shaun handled all PS correspondence on EZBoard. Since then, I've evolved the association through various '05 versions all CE releases and currently it sits at v1.60-- I confess my worries about moving on with newer patches.

My Galleons have enjoyed very good success and they are currently THE dynasty team to beat. This last year howev… Continue

Hi Frozen Stiffer, you sent me a PM about joining my multiplayer league. I appreciate the interest. I'm having problems sending the psa.dat file to new players. I have about four people interested including you.

I can se you are very experienced with PureSim and I'm pretty experienced too, but have never run a multiplayer league.

Do the players need rar to download the file? I got some sort of message for that from the PureSim game. What file do I actually need to attach to an e-mail to the players to get them started? Any help would be appreciated.

If you are still interested, we have several more slots available.

Let me know,
Thank you,
David VanderWerf

Glad to have another Angel fan playing PureSim. I root for the Dodgers too, but my love for the Angels goes way back before either major league team moved west...I can understand you missing being able to watch the Marlins on a regular basis. This season I bit the bullet, financially, and finally signed up for Extra Innings on DirecTV. I've really enjoyed it! I think once you get a sample of seeing all those players you've been reading about in the box scores you'll feel it's worth the cost...Thanks for your note...

The v1.51 anomaly is only because I am in a fictional MP association and they require v1.51 because it's been the most stable for them.

The September call-ups from v1.64 however, has me drooling...

I currently play PureSim on any one of 3 PCs: My work PC is running v1.60 on Windows 2000, my home desktop is running v1.51 on WindowsXP and my laptop is running v.160 on Windows Vista. I have not yet upgraded to the higher patches because I am, admittedly, a bit scared at what may happen to associations that I have put SO much time and effort into.

It looks like the 1.64 patch has stabilized most of these issues and so I think I'm going to venture there on the work PC.

Yeah me too, hopefully they can get FTP working so we can do it still....Puresim still is a reall addicting game though.

one of the reasons i asked though is because i wondered if i should get out of the CE edition and get one of the newer patches, which is why i wanted to know what you were planning on doing.
