I mentioned this in a PM to a fellow player, but the impression I'm getting is that the AI doesn't value players properly when setting up a draft league. So, it becomes very easy for the human GM to sign and trade for potential star players.
Conversely, when the rosters are pre-set, as in a historical-roster realworld association, the AI does much better. It makes it much more difficult to pull off trades with the AI. One on one, it drives a hard deal.
That being said, for a GBG (game-by-game) human player, the experience becomes more lifelike and challenging. If you wanna have a pennant winner, you must do it the old-fashioned way, developing players in the farm system.
Quick-fixes with trades are harder to do.
Now, as for the in-game experience, the AI will call for steals and hit & runs on offense, and will make defensive substitutions and realignments. I'm impressed by this.
